Piffl is the missing link between cities' activity areas and the people around them. Just like the swing at the playground or the goal on the soccer field, sports, games, and activity equipment should be a natural part of our shared outdoor spaces.
What is your pricing model?
For users, borrowing equipment is free in most locations. We also offer firewood boxes where wood is sold at cost. For our partners, pricing includes a one-time purchase along with a recurring service fee.
Do you work with annual maintenance and/or operational costs?
Yes, maintenance is built into our service, covered by a recurring fee that ensures hassle-free access to our boxes. This includes software updates, battery monitoring and replacement, seasonal activity changes, and replacing equipment that is worn out, broken, or missing.
Who is responsible for repairs, replacements and long-term servicing?
We handle all repairs, replacements, and ongoing maintenance as part of our service. Our recurring fee covers everything from software security and battery replacements to product swaps based on seasonal demand or wear and tear.
How do users access the equipment?
Users access equipment through the Piffl app, where they can locate nearby boxes and view available activities. To borrow an item, they select a box and unlock the compartment via the app. During the rental, the app displays the rental time, product details, and controls to open the compartment or end the session. When returning equipment, users follow an in-app return process, including verification and optional feedback.
Additionally, the app highlights nearby activity areas—such as basketball courts, pétanque courts, and soccer fields—making it easy to find a place to play.

How does your system contribute to sustainability goals?
Our platform maximizes the use of existing public spaces, encouraging more frequent activity at playgrounds, sports fields, and parks. By sharing equipment rather than requiring individual ownership, we promote a circular economy that reduces waste and extends product lifespans.
Additionally, we contribute to social sustainability by fostering inclusive outdoor spaces where people of all backgrounds can meet, play, and stay active—leading to improved public health and well-being.
What is the expected lifespan of the equipment, and how is it replaced?
Our equipment is selected for durability and frequent use. While lifespan varies, most items last several years under normal conditions. We monitor wear and tear through user feedback and regular inspections. Items that become damaged, lost, or worn out are promptly replaced as part of our maintenance service.
How does your system prevent theft and vandalism?
While incidents of theft and vandalism have been rare, our system includes safeguards to prevent misuse. Each rental is linked to a registered user, creating accountability, and our platform detects suspicious activity. In cases of vandalism, relocating a box within the area or to a nearby location has proven effective. Additionally, our secure locking mechanisms and sturdy design help deter unauthorized access and damage.
What data-tracking features are available for municipalities?
Municipalities will soon have access to a partner portal where they can track their boxes in real time and monitor key insights. This includes usage reports, rental activity, and performance data for each location. Until now, we have provided regular reports to our partners, but with the new portal, municipalities will have on-demand access to data, helping them optimize placements, measure impact, and make informed decisions about their shared activity spaces.
